Straight From Australia
Dear Friends,I must say that in spite of all the confusion and the loss of points,
I was happy.
Since Friday, the car had been responding well. Even though I knew I wasn’t going to be able to be in the fight for the pole position, it was possible to be among the first 12.
We still had trouble with the speed on the straights and the motor drivability, but the car’s strong point is aerodynamic balance and that’s exactly why I believe we are going to have a promising year with lots of upgrades in the wind tunnel. The first of these upgrades will happen in Barcelona.
Well, back to the race. I must say that the fact that Glock crashed right in the lap that I was going into the boxes was a pity. Hamilton went in one lap before I did. If the safety car had gone into the track one lap before, this could have ended the race for him too, because he would have needed gas just like I did.
From then on, everything got messed up: our chief of mechanics, the one who holds the lollipop in front of the car, let me go before it was time and so I did and I ended up taking the whole gang with me. Thank God there were only a few scratches, but nobody got really hurt.
In the middle of the pit stop I had to deal with a menu that’s on the steering wheel. In the past, this used to be done electronically, but not anymore.
That’s why I really couldn’t have seen the red light. Seriously, if I had been able to see it, I would tell you, but it was really impossible.
Well, now it’s over and done! The important thing is to focus on the good things and I can say that the weekend had much more positive points than negative ones.
I’m already in Malaysia and ready to rock and roll! May the scoring begin!
Take care,
Rubens Barrichello
